The crew of the lifeboat don't join to earn medals or awards but sometimes due to gallantry and efforts during a service or long service as a volunteer such recognition is made. Dover's crews and volunteers over the years have been awarded six silver and thirteen bronze medals for gallantry. The Maud Smith Award for the bravest act of lifesaving in 1987 was awarded to Roy Couzens for his actions during that October's 'Great Storm'.
