| Not to be confused with a previous coxswain John Walker, Johnny Walker was coxswain of the Dover lifeboat from 1947 until 1960. He was the first Coxswain at following the end of WWII and served on both the 'J B Proudfoot' and 'Southern Africa'. He was awared two Bronze medals for gallantry, one for the services carried out on 29th July 1956, when the coast was struck by hurricane force winds and the other for the rescue of the yacht 'Akeco'. He was also coxswain the day that the lifeboat made television history with a live broadcast from the lifeboat during a service call. |
