21st November 2005

The BBC News website reported on the man saved from the Channel after falling from a ferry.

 

14th November 2005

The Dover Express and the Dover Mercury both reported on the medevac of a sick Turkish sailor carried out by the lifeboat crew.

 

26th September 2005

Both local papers carried articles about the Coastguard Station Open day and that both the Walmer and Dover lifeboats had been diverted from their demonstration to the rescue of five people cut off by the tide.

 

19th September 2005

The Dover Express and the Dover Mercury both covered the forthcoming Open day at the Dover Coastguard Station. The Dover Mercury also described the new educational CD-ROM launched by the Coastguard. The BBC showed an interview with the diver hit by a tug as she surfaced.

 

12th September 2005

The Dover Express recapped on the previous week's story of the lost yacht, described a dinghy found floating in the Channel and advertised the forthcoming Open day at the Coastguard Station.

 

5th September 2005

The Dover Mercury told how an American tourist had been rescued from Crab Bay by the Walmer lifeboat and brought to Dover. The same paper and the Dover Express both told the tale of a lost yachtsman who believing he was just off Ramsgate was finally found by the lifeboat off the French coast.

 

22nd August 2005

The local papers both covered the story of the female diver struck by a tug. An MCA press release described the rescue of two springer spaniels from the cliffs at Cape-le-Ferne. The Dover Mercury also described a search for a missing man whose car had been found on the cliff top near Capel-le-Ferne.

 

15th August 2005

The Dover Mercury reported a busy week with Dover lifeboat and Walmer being called to a yacht aground on the Goodwins and at the same time dealing with a broken down motor cruiser was drifting off Dover. This paper also reported on the lifeboat's new video camera capability. Later in the week the MCA issued a press release and the BBC News website carried the story of a diver hit by a tug as she surfaced.

 

8th August 2005

Both local papers reported on the lifeboat's display at the Dover Regatta. The Dover Mercury also reported on a musical fundraising event for the RNLI organised by the Sandwich, whilst the Dover Express decribed the lifeboat's new camera system, donated by members of Sunbridge Park Golf Club.

 

1st August 2005

The Dover Mercury reported on the retirement of the lifeboat's 2nd Coxswain and Mechanic Dennis Bailey, who had moved to Dover in 1988 after serving at Sheerness and Humber.

 

25th July 2005

Both local papers reported on an incident where the lifeboat was called to a diver suspected of suffering decompression sickness. The Dover Mercury also reported on another call out for the lifeboat involving divers where two had gone missing but were found by the Coastguard Tug. The Folkestone Herald described the wierd and wacky sights taking part in the Folkestone Raft Race raising money for the RNLI.

 

18th July 2005

The Dover Express described two calls in the previous week for the lifeboat. One to a Dutch trimaran in danger of breaking up and the second to a Norwegian yacht with engine failure.

 

11th July 2005

The Dover Mercury in their look back over the years told how the lifeboat 'Sir William Hillary' had been named 75 years beforehand. Both the local papers reported on the lifeboat being called out before the Port Sunday service and only arriving back from two consecutive shouts just as the service finished.

 

4th July 2005

The Dover Express advertised the forthcoming Port Sunday Service being held at the Boathouse and reported on trials of a new lifeboat at our flank station Walmer.
