25th December 2006

The Dover Express reported on an survey commissioned by the RNLI looking at people's volunteering habits and the East Kent Mercury mentioned the Sandwich Ladies Guild having the winning entry in a tree decoration competition.

 

18th December 2006

A photo and report in the Dover Express described the Dover Ladies Guild's last fundraising event of 2006, a coffee morning held at the Boat house.

 

11th December 2006

The Dover Express advertised the forthcoming Coffee morning being held on the 16th at the Boathouse and the Dover Mercury picked up on the Station's request for more volunteer crew members.

 

4th December 2006

BBC Radio Kent's magazine County Life had three page feature on crew member Steve Ladner whilst the Dover Express ran an article on the Station's need for more crew members.

 

13th November 2006

The Station was the site of filmed reports by BBC Southeast Today, Meridian Tonight and Channel 4 News as a result of the lifeboat's involvement in a major search for two people believed missing from a cross-channel ferry. National newspapers including the Daily Mirror, Daily Telegraph, The Sun and Independent also ran the story. The local newspapers also mentioned the story. Coverage was also noted on the BBC News, Channel 4 News, Kent Online, and Kent News websites. Both local newspapers had photographs and articles on the Remembrance Day parade that in which members of the crew participated.

 

11th September 2006

The Dover Express reported on two service calls carried out on the same afternoon. One to reports of person in trouble in the sea and also to a capsized sailing dinghy.

 

4th September 2006

An article in the Dover Express described how a barge with three persons on board had encountered difficulties in a Force 6 just outside the harbour.

 

28th August 2006

The Dover Express had a story of the colourfully decorated barge that suffered engine failure whilst on passage to France.

 

7th August 2006

Dover Harbour Board's website had a press release detailing events for the Regatta including the display by Dover and Walmer Lifeboats.

 

31st July 2006

The Dover Express had a report on a motorboat with a suspected engine fire towed in to Dover by the lifeboat where personnel from Kent Fire and Rescue Service were on hand to make sure nothing was alight. The Dover Mercury had an article describing a busy 24 hours for the lifeboat crew when they had dealt with four incidents.

 

24th July 2006

The Folkestone Herald had three articles mentioning the Dover lifeboat. The first was about a search involving the lifeboat, police and coastguards after a man threatened to jump off Folkestone Pier, at the same time there were reports of a three men rowing a boat out of the harbour and the final article described a broken down yacht being towed in from south of Folkestone. The Dover Express also covered these services whilst the Dover Mercury advertised the forthcoming Dock Rock music festival.

 

10th July 2006

The BBC News website reported how coastguards were warning about drinking and going to sea after three men were found in a small dinghy off Folkestone.

 

3rd July 2006

A story in the Dover Express described how four teenageers from Chatham had to be rescued by the lifeboat after being stranded by the tide near Samphire Hoe.

 

30th June 2006

The BBC News website reported on the tragic drowning of a young girl at Folkestone found after a long search by Police, Coastguards, the Dover and Littlestone lifeboats as well as a RAF Helicopter.

 

26th June 2006

A colour photo spread in the Dover Express reported on the Lifeboat Station's Open weekend where over 450 people had been able to explore the lifeboat and meet the crew. The same paper also reported on a female diver who had been rushed into Dover and then flown to hospital after ascending from the seabed too quickly.

 

19th June 2006

A story by Graham Tutthill in the Dover Mercury told how pupils from local secondary schools have undertaken part of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award at the lifeboat station. There was also a notice about the forthcoming Station Open weekend. The Dover Express reported that the lifeboat had recovered a large inflatable whale after a ferry reported something "suspicious in the water".

 

5th June 2006

The Dover Express reported on the mystery of a Mercedes van found submerged in the Warren. Unable to check whether anyone was in it or not from the shore, Coastguards requested the lifeboat to check the scene. Another article in the same paper asked parents keep a close eye on their children when near the sea as Coastguard's had recorded a twenty per cent increase in incidents the previous year and causing them to launch their Sea Smart campaign.

 

22nd May 2006

Two mentions in the Dover Mercury during this week. One in an article describing how the Dover Regatta is going to be bigger and better than ever and the second was promoting another of the Dover Ladies Lifeboat Guild Coffee mornings.

 

15th May 2006

The Dover Mercury told how a 125 tonne trawler had to be towed into Dover by the lifeboat after suffering engine failure.

 

24th April 2006

The Dover Mercury had an article about the launch of Maritime Incident Response Group.

 

17th April 2006

There was considerable coverage on the BBC News website and BBC National News about the launch of the new Maritime Incident Response Group to deal with incidents of fire at Sea. An exercise was held in Fan Bay involving the lifeboat. The Dover Mercury publicised the forthcoming Dover Ladies Guild Coffee morning.

 

10th April 2006

A report in the Dover Mercury described a visit to the lifeboat by pupils from the Reception class at Eastry Primary School.

 

6th March 2006

The Dover Express had a story about the lifeboat crew carrying out a medevac of an injured crewman from a Dutch naval vessel and along with the Dover Mercury described the previous week's major search in the channel for a suspected man overboard. The Dover Mercury also praised some eagle eyed readers who had identified an old photograph as one of Dover's previous lifeboats the "Sir William Hillary". Finally the Kentish Express described the victory of campaigners in Folkestone in re-establishing a beach rescue boat for Sunny Sands.

 

27th February 2006

The Daily Telegraph and BBC News website both described how cross channel ferries had been delayed when they joined in a major search in the Channel. A passenger on a ferry had reported seeing a person in the water. Dover lifeboat and other search and rescue assets also took part but after two hours nothing had been found.

The Dover Express told how Dover lifeboat had rescued a lone yachtsman stranded off Folkestone in a disabled vessel.

 

20th February 2006

The BBC News website reported on the RNLI's announcement that it had been the busiest year ever for lifeboat crews around the country.
