31st December 2007

The Dover Express reported on the tragic incident at the Eastern Docks just before Christmas. yourdover reported on the damage Speed One suffered after she struck the Prince of Wales pier.

 

24th December 2007

The Dover Express had a full page article on new Coxswain Stuart Richardson. The Dover Mercury reported on the previous week's incident at No. 1 Berth and the presentation of a cheque to the Children of the Whitfield and Aspen School by the lifeboat crew. The BBC News website reported on the incident involving Speed One taking on water.

 

17th December 2007

yourdover online reported on the incident in the harbour where a man was recovered from the area of No 1 Berth after a car was driven into the sea.

 

9th December 2007

The Dover Mercury interviewed Coxswain Stuart Richardson and advertised the Ladies Guild's Festive Coffee Morning.

The Dover Mercury and the Dover Express reported on the service call to the small fishing vessel 'Red Fox'.

The Dover Express and the Dover Mercury both reported on the appointment of Stuart Richardson as Coxswain.

 

15th October 2007

A lot of media coverage on the 20th anniversary of the 1987 Hurricane. Articles in the Dover Mercury, Daily Mirror, and yourDover mentioned the rescue in the Harbour, as well as various television news broadcasts

A half hour documentary including an interview with Roy Couzens was broadcast on BBC Radio Kent.

There was also coverage in the Dover Mercury and Dover Express of the previous weekend's exhibition for travellers held at the Cruise Terminal. The RNLI was the beneficiary of monies raised at the event's raffle.

 

8th October 2007

The Dover Express and Kent on Sunday recounted the effects of the Great Storm on Dover and described the sinking of the Sumnia and grounding of the Hengist. The RNLI Lifeboat magazine's Autumn edition has a large photograph of a 'RNLB Sir William Hillary' being launched at Dover in 1930.

 

1st October 2007

An article and film about the lifeboat service during the Great Storm of 1987 was released on the BBC Southeast website.

 

17th September 2007

The Dover Express and the Dover Mercury both reported on the previous weekend's service call to a 68 year old woman who had collapsed on Langdon Steps.

 

27th August 2007

The Dover Express reported on the weekend's paper boat race held in Pencester gardens. The RNLI is a beneficary of funds from this event.

 

20th August 2007

Both local papers advertised the forthcoming paper boat race in aid of the RNLI. The Dover Express also covered the recent door to door collection in Kingsdown and Ringwould.

 

13th August 2007

The Dover Express recounted a story from 25 years ago of a unsucessful search for a person overboard from a ferry. Both the local papers had a photographs and reports from the previous weekend's Regatta.

 

6th August 2007

The Dover Express and Dover Mercury both advertised the Dover Regatta.

 

30th July 2007

Both local papers reported on the previous week's incident at Deal Pier and previewed the forthcoming Dover Regatta.

 

23rd July 2007

Both local papers covered the Community Safety Day held in Pencester Gardens.

 

9th July 2007

The Dover Mercury reported on the previous weekend's Port Sunday Service held at the Station.

 

2nd July 2007

Both local papers had good coverage of the Station's Open Weekend. The Dover Express also had a large article on former Coxswain Tony Hawkins. They also recounted a service in 1932 to a ditched biplane.

 

25th June 2007

The Dover Express recounted how 25 years ago the Dover lifeboat had been involved in the rescue of some French fisherman from their sinking vessel.

 

4th June 2007

The Dover Express reported on the award of a Honorary Life Governorship to Roy Pain for his forty years as a volunteer. There was also mention of August's Regatta display and the sucessful completion of the London Marathon by Alistair Stevenson who raised over £600 for Dover lifeboat. The Dover Mercury also related the events at the forthcoming Regatta as well as the recent service call to an sick man aboard a tug. The BBC Radio Kent County Life magazine had an article written and photography by a Dover lifeboat crew member about exploring the coast with fellow crew member Steve Ladner.

The Dover Mercury reported on a service call to a French Ketch with broken steering.

 

23rd April 2007

The Dover Express reported on the previous week's incident below Shakespeare Cliff. Also this week the Folkestone Herald had a report and photograph of Steve Ladner opening the new National Coastwatch Institute's lookout at Copt Point, Folkestone.

 

16th April 2007

The BBC South east and Meridian news both showed footage of the rescue of three teenage girls stranded below Shakespeare Cliff. The Dover Mercury and Saturday Observer also covered the incident. In the Dover Express it was remembered how fifty years ago the book "A study of the lifeboat service 1956" had been released. The book had a detailled account of services the Dover lifeboat carried out the in the July 1956 storm.

 

9th April 2007

The Dover Mercury advertised the forthcoming official opening of the National Coastwatch Institute's lookout at Folkestone. The opening will be performed by crew member Steve Ladner.

Both the Dover Express and the Dover Mercury reported on the two services carried out on the same day last week.

 

26th March 2007

The Dover Express "The way we were" page remembered how fifty years ago Coxswain John Walker had been presented with a Bronze medal by Countess Mountbatten. This award followed the rescue of the crews of three yachts the previous July when severe storms had struck the coast.

 

19th March 2007

The Dover Express reported on the RNLI's rescue figures for 2006.

 

12th March 2007

Both local papers reported on the service to the wreckage spotted in the channel. The Dover Express had an article on the recent Exercise Manchex whilst the Dover Mercury described the presentation to the station of a cheque of monies raised during the recent CAMRA beer festival.

 

5th March 2007

The BBC Southeast Today and Meridian local news reports both showed Exercise Manchex which involved Dover, Walmer and Ramsgate lifeboats. Dover Coastguard was the coordinating body and many other agencies were involved. Later in the week the Dover Mercury reported that some improvements to systems have already been put in place as a result of lessons learnt from the exercise. The Dover Mercury also reported on a Dovorian now living in the United States raising money for Dover lifeboat by running the London Marathon. The KM Extra had a two page spread of adverts from Folkestone businesses supporting the RNLI. This item also had some photographs of the Dover lifeboat in Folkestone and from a recent visit to the Station by the Mayor of Folkestone and other supporters. Later in the week the BBC News website and MCA Press office reported on the search relating the wreckage sighted in the channel by the Coastguard aircraft.

 

26th February 2007

The BBC News website reported on the forthcoming multinational multiagency exercise to be held in the Channel on 5th March.

 

19th February 2007

The Dover Express had a photograph and details of the presentations made at the recent Crew Supper.

 

12th February 2007

The BBC News website carried the story of the service call to a large Dutch schooner that was drifting near the Goodwin Sands. Later in the week both local papers reported on the same incident. The Dover Mercury also reported on the previous week's Crew Supper where various awards were made to crew and volunteers.

 

5th February 2007

The Dover Mercury reported on Dover Grammar School for Girls new status as specialist school for Humanities. This will involve links with the lifeboat station.

 

22nd January 2007

The Dover Express remembered a 1907 rescue, of three men, for which the rescuers had been rewarded by the RNLI and Dover Town Council.

 

8th January 2007

The Dover Mercury reported on a search involving Dover and Dungeness lifeboats that resulted from the accidental activation of an EPIRB. This was Dover's first service call of 2007.
