At 1555hrs on 25th August 1992, 'Rotary Service' launched with Coxswain Tony Hawkins in charge. The lifeboat had been launched in response to reports of a twelve metre yacht taking on water ten miles East north east of Dover. In rough seas with a very strong southwesterly wind. Also responding to the 'Constanze', a german yacht with six people on board, were a hovercraft, four ferries and a helicopter from RAF Manston. Before the lifeboat arrived one of the ferries had lowered one of its own lifeboats to assist but that had become entangled in a rope. The helicopter was also having difficulties in assisting due to the yacht's mast and stays. 'Rotary Service' arrived at 1635hrs and, in the lee provided by one of the ferries, transferred two lifeboat crew and a salvage pump to the yacht whilst taking off the six people. A towline was then connected and the lifeboat started to proceed towards Dover. After the tow rope broke several times and it was apparent that the 'Constanze' was sinking, the two lifeboat crew on board were quickly recovered. The Constanze finally sank two miles from Dover. After this service a letter of appreciation was received from Commodore George Cooper, the RNLI Chief of Operations.
