Sick lady landed from 'Lord Nelson'

Whilst the 51 metre long sail training vessel 'Lord Nelson' was passing Dover, on 10th September 2003, a female passenger was taken ill. Dover Lifeboat launched with Coxswain David Pascall and a crew of ten at 1630hrs. The doctor on board the 'Lord Nelson' was concerned by the condition of the passenger who was wheelchair bound and felt that she should be transferred ashore for hospital treatment.

Luckily the weather was fair with only a slight sea and this allowed Coxswain Pascall to put three crew members aboard the sailing vessel and then safely transfer the patient to the lifeboat.

On arrival at Dover at 1740hrs, the lifeboat crew were able to hand the sick lady over to the care of Kent Ambulance Service personnel.

Following this service a Letter of Thanks was received from the RNLI Operations Director, Michael Vlasto, praising the seamanship, compassion and teamwork shown by Coxswain Pascall and his crew.
