27th September 2008

The Dover Mercury reported on the preparations for next year's RNLI SOS appeal. Deputy 2nd Coxswain Mark 'Foggy' Finnis could be heard, on Radio 4, talking about his fulltime job as a Thames lifeboatman.

 

22nd September 2008

The Dover Express and the Dover Mercury reported on the previous week's service to a yacht in difficulties off Folkestone Pier. The Dover Adscene all had a photograph and write up of the services to a sick man aboard a dive boat and a boat trapped by its own anchor rope.

 

15th September 2008

The Dover Mercury had the story and a photograph relating to the services to the angling boat with a fouled propellor and the medevac of a sick man from a diving boat. The Dover Express also covered these stories and related why in 1983 it was announced that the Lifeboat station would have to move from the Submarine Pens. They also advertised an exhibition of photographs by the late Ray Warner, one of which was a portrait of former coxswain John Walker. The Dover Mercury also reported on local swimmer Sam Jones' successful channel swim raising money for the RNLI.

 

8th September 2008

The Dover Express reported on the service call to a yacht with steering failure and along with the Dover Mercury the unveiling of a statue to remember the many Merchant Seaman who died during the Second World War. The service was lead by the Station's Chaplain David Ridley and attended by the Coxswain and members of the crew.

 

1st September 2008

The Dover Express reported on a service to an angling boat that had been disabled by a stray rope.

 

25th August 2008

The Dover Express and Dover Mercury both reported on the rescue of a couple from the base of cliffs near St Margarets and the lifeboat's service to a yacht with a broken rudder.

 

18th August 2008

The Dover Express and the Dover Mercury both reported on the previous week's rescue of a disabled Belgian yacht. The Dover Express also described the previous week's rescue of the Folkestone Rescue Boat as did the Dover Extra. The Dover Mercury had a report on the fundraising resulting from the Dragon Boat racing. ITV Ceefax reported on the service to a yacht with a broken rudder.

 

11th August 2008

The Folkestone Herald and the Kentish Express reported on the rescue of the Folkestone Rescue Boat.

 

4th August 2008

The Dover & Deal Extra had a front page report on a cheque presentation from the local CAMRA branch. The Dover Express also ran the story and as with the Dover Mercury gave good coverage of the Dover Regatta.

 

28th July 2008

Both the Dover Mercury and Dover Express reported on the busy week of shouts for the lifeboat and advertised the Search and Rescue display at the weekend's Regatta.

 

21st July 2008

Dover lifeboat was used as a backdrop for the filming of a BBC South East Today report on the effect of rising fuel costs on the lifeboat fleet during which Deputy Divisional Inspector Allen Head was interviewed. The Dover Express and Dover Mercury both reported on the Community Safety Day and 125th anniversary celebrations at Connaught Park. The Dover Mercury also reported on a P&O Ferries team's entry into the Regatta's dragon boat racing competition.

 

14th July 2008

The Dover Mercury reported on the recent visit by the Chairman of the RNLI and the Port Sunday service. The Dover Express had an advert for the weekend's Harbour Festival at Folkestone. Both papers and the Adscene advertised the Dover Regatta.

 

7th July 2008

The Dover Express and the Dover Mercury both described the recent service call to a Dutch yacht in difficulties just off the Port.

 

30th June 2008

A lot of press coverage this week. Firstly the Dover Express reported the sad news that Former Branch Chairman and Treasurer Roy Pain had died. This paper also had a feature on Tony Hawkins looking back at some of the more memorable services during his time as crew member and then Coxswain. The Express also related the early morning antics of a drunken pair in Folkestone that caused the lifeboat crew to becalled from their beds as well as two other service calls.

The Dover Mercury had a photo and report on the recent service to a Dive Boat and the visit Coxswain Stuart Richardson made to local brownies to recieve a cheque.

 

23rd June 2008

The Dover Express previewed an feature in the following week's edition of Tony Hawkins and Peter White reminiscing over their many years associated with the lifeboat. The Dover Mercury had an article on former Dover lifeboat 'Southern Africa' and her restoration.

 

2nd June 2008

Both the local papers reported on the previous week's mystery surrounding the fishing nets that caused the lifeboat to be called out three times in one day.

 

26th May 2008

Both the Dover Mercury and the Dover Express reported on the two services carried out during the previous week.

 

19th May 2008

The Dover Express reported on the reception to honour the first recipients of Dover Town Mayors awards. Dover Lifeboat's former Chairman and Treasurer Roy Pain was one of the recipients but unfortunately unable to attend due to ill health. The Dover Mercury covered local swimmer Sam Jones' preparations for her Channel Swim to raise money for the lifeboat.

 

12th May 2008

Yourthanet, the Dover Mercury and the Dover Express both reported on the finding of the body of a missing woman from Thanet and the recovery of her body by the lifeboat crew. The Dover Express and Dover Mercury also detailled the medevac of a sailor from a US warship. The Dover Express remembered the efforts former crew member Gerry Stupples went to to break two world records for marathon hair cutting.

 

5th May 2008

The Dover Mercury reported on how one of the Dover based Range Safety boats had been the first to respond to the sinking yacht described in the previous week.

The Dover Express and Dover Mercury both reported on a service carried out to a sinking yacht.

 

21st April 2008

Both the Dover Express and the Dover Mercury reported the service to an angling boat that had broken down off Samphire Hoe. The Dover Express in a feature on cross channel swimming described Sam Jones' preparations for an attempt later in the year and her aim to raise money for Dover lifeboat.

The Dover Adscene reported on a recent talk by the Coxswain which reinforced how important donors are to the RNLI.

Both the Dover Mercury and Dover Express reported on the presentation of a cheque to Coxswain Stuart Richardson by local Rotarians.

 

3rd March 2008

The Dover Express and Dover Mercury both described the damage caused to the Station lifeboat during a rescue the previous week. The Dover Express also reported on the presence of representatives from many of the region's lifeboat stations for the funeral of former Coxswain Dave Pascall.

 

25th February 2008

The Dover Mercury described the forthcoming fundraising event being organised by Dover Jive Club. The Dover Express described former Coxswain Dave Pascall as "larger than life" in an obituary and also described how in 1866 contractors had handed over the completed boathouse to the RNLI.

 

18th February 2008

YourDover and the Dover Mercury both reported on the naming and inquest of the man found at the foot of cliffs at St Margaret's. The Dover Mercury, the Kent on Sunday and the Dover Express both also reported the sudden death of former Coxswain David Pascall.

The Dover Express and the Dover Mercury both reported on the previous week's incident at St Margaret's and the subsequent recovery of a man's body by the lifeboat crew.

 

4th February 2008

Both the Dover Mercury and the Dover Express reported on the previous week's service call to sightings of red flares. The Dover Express also covered the presentation of a special award by Rotary for his skills as an ambulance paramedic to crew member Graham Wilson. YourDover online described the results of the missing person search at St Margaret's.


28th January 2008

The Dover Mercury reported on the release of rescue figures for 2007 by the RNLI. Coxswain Stuart Richardson and crew member Steve Ladner were interviewed on BBC Radio Kent's Sunday afternoon show.

 

21st January 2008

The Dover Express had a story about a recent service to a fishing boat as well as a service the lifeboat carried out fifty years ago and a photo feature about crew member Naomi Pegden.

 

14th January 2008

The Dover Mercury described the launch of a fundraising campaign by local swimmer Sam Jones who hopes to swim the Channel to raise money for Dover lifeboat.

 

7th January 2008

Both the Dover Express and Dover Mercury reported the lifeboat crew's two shouts on New Year's Day. Yourdover reported that an inquest had been opened into the death of the man recovered from the sea after his car entered the water at No 1 berth.
